SECTION 4 - FIRE AND EXPLOSION INFORMATION

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA:
Regular foam or water fog, or carbon dioxide, or dry chemical
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:
May form toxic materials:, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride, phosgene,
nitrogen compounds, various hydrocarbons.
FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES:
Self-contained breathing apparatus with a full facepiece operated in pressure-demand or
other positive pressure mode.
SPECIAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS:
Vapors are heavier than air and may travel along the ground or may be moved by ventilation
and ignited by pilot lights, other flames, sparks, heaters, smoking, electric motors or
other ignition sources at locations distant from material handling pt. Never use welding
or cutting torch on or near drum (even empty) because product or residue can ignite
explosively.
SECTION 5 - HEALTH HAZARD DATA
EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE
EYES:
Can cause severe irritation, redness, tearing, blurred vision.
SKIN:
Prolonged or repeated contact can cause irritation, defatting, or dermatitis.
BREATHING:
Excessive inhalation of vapors can cause nasal and respiratory irritation, dizziness,
weakness, fatigue, nausea, headache, possible unconsciousness, central nervous system
depression, and even asphyxiation.
SWALLOWING:
Can cause gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, blindness, and death.
Aspiration of material into lungs can cause chemical pneumonitis, which can be fatal.
FIRST AID
IF ON SKIN:
Thoroughly wash exposed area with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing. Launder
clothing before re-use.
IF IN EYES:
Flush with large amounts of water, lifting upper and lower lids occasionally; SEEK MEDICAL
ATTENTION
IF SWALLOWED:
Call physician, emergency room or poison control center IMMEDIATELY for
instructions to induce vomiting. Keep person warm and quiet.
IF INHALED:
If affected, remove to fresh air. If breathing is difficult, administer oxygen. If
breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Keep person warm and quiet, and SEEK
MEDICAL ATTENTION. Do not give stimulants. Epinephrine or ephedrine may adversely affect
the heart with fatal results.

SECTION 7 - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS RELEASED OR SPILLED
SMALL SPILL:
Absorb liquid on paper, vermiculite, floor absorbent, or other absorbent material and
transfer to hood.
LARGE SPILL
Eliminate all ignition sources (flares, flames, pilot lights, electrical sparks, etc.).
Persons not wearing protective equipment should be excluded from area of spill until
clean-up has been completed. Stop spill source, dike area of spill to prevent spreading.
Pump liquid to salvage tank. Remaining liquid may be taken up on sand, clay, earth, floor
absorbent, or other absorbent material and shoveled into containers.
WATER DISPOSAL METHOD
SMALL SPILL:
Allow volatile portion to evaporate in hood. Allow sufficient time for vapors to
completely clear hood duct work. Destroy remaining material by burning in an iron pan.
LARGE SPILL:
Destroy by liquid incineration with off-gas scrubber. Material collected on absorbent
material may be deposited in a posted toxic substance landfill in accordance with local,
state, and federal regulations.
SECTION 8 - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION
VENTILATION:
Provide sufficient mechanical (general) and/or local exhaust ventilation to maintain
exposure below TLVs of components.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES:
Wear resistant gloves such as: polyvinyl alcohol, natural rubber, etc.
EYE PROTECTION:
Chemical splash goggles in compliance with OSHA regulations are advised; however, OSHA
regulations also permit other type safety glasses. (See your safety equipment supplier.)
SECTION 9 - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS OR OTHER COMMENTS
Containers
of this material may be hazardous when emptied. since emptied containers retain product
residues (vapor, liquid, and/or solid), all hazard precautions given in this data sheet
must be observed.
Overexposure to components has apparently been found
to cause the following effects in laboratory animals: liver abnormalities, lung damage,
kidney damage, spleen damage, eye damage, brain damage, and central nervous system damage.
Cancer Hazard:
This product contains Methylene Chloride, which has been shown to cause
cancer in some laboratory animals. Risk to your health depends on level and duration of
exposure. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin.
